HELP OUR HORSES
On the remote island of Vieques beauty abounds. One of our signature attractions are the herds of free-roaming horses numbering in the thousands. Playing a major role in Viequense heritage, these Paso Fino descendants are steeped in centuries-old history. However, many are in need of humane treatment, emergency care, medications, and veterinary services — all of which costs money. We're here to provide all of that along with food, water, and tender loving care. And we need your help.

From vehicular accidents to malnutrition to various diseases, Hooves on the Ground answers the call of duty daily to provide care for each and every horse we can help.
Please call or text 939-529-8848 if you see a horse that needs attention, and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Please leave a message as we are not always able to answer the phone or you can message us via our Facebook page: Hooves on the Ground/Pezunas en el Suelo.

MEET GIA AND HER FOAL, TINY
Gia came to us with a horrific wound possibly from being hit with a machete. She was wary of humans; we had no information of her history but from her demeanor and wound we assumed she had been abused. It took months to get her wound to heal and during that time we realized that she was pregnant. It took time for her to gain trust and she had plenty of moments of uncertainty. With time as well as care, grace, and respect we built a relationship that allowed us to work with her and her foal, Tiny.
She was a doting mother and raised a healthy son without worrying about food, shelter, or roaming stallions. We had the honor of rehoming her to a young man after she had been in our care for well over a year. Our goal is that he continues to show Gia the dignity, love and care we aim to see in all the horse owners here. One horse at a time.
